Expectancy maintains a Register of Practitioners with the relevant qualifications and expertise to offer
complementary therapies safely for expectant, labouring and newly-delivered mothers.
All of our Registered Practitioners have successfully completed Expectancy training
(professionally-recognised and university-approved courses) and are either practising midwives with additional
complementary therapy qualifications, experienced complementary practitioners who have undertaken additional courses
in treating pregnant women, or Birth Support Therapists who are trained to support mothers in labour
with appropriate complementary therapies to help them achieve a safe and satisfying birth.
The Register is still being compiled - if you cannot find a practitioner in your area please
Contact Expectancy
or telephone 0845 301 323 (local rates).

Surveys suggest that the continued attendance of a “doula” or lay person during a mother’s labour is more likely
to result in a normal birth with fewer complications, than if she is left unattended.
Expectancy™ trained Birth Support Therapists provide support for you and your family whilst you are in labour,
focusing specifically on incorporating complementary therapies safely and appropriately to ease pain, anxiety
and other symptoms; they are normally insured with the Federation of Antenatal Educators (FEDANT) or similar.
Expectancy’s training has prepared our Birth Support Therapists to care for you and to use complementary therapies
safely within set professional boundaries.
It is hoped that the training programme will become a university-accredited course within the next year.
Please note that Our Birth Support Therapists will be unable to provide care during labour if you have
actively chosen to decline conventional midwifery care.
